23-year-old mother uses scissors to cut her baby’s penis while changing his diaper

The father of a baby boy was shocked to learn that the child’s mother cut his genitals with scissors while changing his diaper, according to police in Pennsylvania. On Wednesday, the Berks County District Attorney’s Child Abuse Detectives received a ChildLine report of suspected child abuse. During the investigation, Detectives learned that the 20-month-old child was transported to the Ephrata Hospital in Lancaster County. Doctors treated the baby boy for a laceration of the child’s penis.
Berks County Detectives learned that the mother of the child, Ashley Marie Kase, 23, intentionally lacerated the child’s genitalia with a pair of scissors.
By her own admission, while changing the child’s diaper, she grabbed the pair of scissors and purposely cut the victim’s genitalia. This baby was later transported and treated for his injuries at Penn State Health – Milton S. Hershey Hospital – in Hershey. Subsequently, at a later date, the child was discharged to the care of his biological father.
Detectives obtained a warrant for arrest from Magisterial District Judge David Glass for the defendant for the charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.
The defendant was subsequently apprehended at her place of employment.
She was transported to the Sheriff’s Central Processing Unit for processing and arraignment. Bail was set at $200,000. She is currently in the Berks County Jail.
