U.S. Immigration agents ate at restaurant before arresting 3 kitchen employees

A restaurant owner in Michigan, is upset that three of her employees were arrested after serving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Restaurant owner Sava Lelcaj-Farah said that they use a third party to vet their employees before they were hired and therefore, she was shocked when three of her kitchen staff were arrested. Five ICE agents went to the Sava's Restaurant in Ann Arbor. Three agents stood guard at the front and back exits, during the “targeted enforcement action.”
Two of the agents entered the restaurant and ordered breakfast. One agent had waffles and bacon and the other ate eggs and toast while keeping an eye out for the kitchen. When one employee went to take out the garbage, he was detained. However, he was released after showing agents his permanent resident card. Three other employees then attempted to leave the restaurant, but were detained. One of them overstayed his visa, while the other two were in the country illegally. According to some reports, Lelcaj said that she had lived in the U.S. illegally in the 1980s, but she has since received citizenship and she now owns three restaurants.
