While many people around the world love to watch sports and are looking forward to going to the stadium to enjoy a game live, women in Iran are banned from doing so. Women who wish to watch a game, have to watch it on television as they are banned from entering arenas. Recently, women began disguising themselves by dressing in men’s sports clothing. They also covered their hair with hats from the favorite teams to further hide their identities. The government began cracking down on women who break the law and attend the games. Recently, eight women were arrested at a game between Esteghlal F.C. and Persepolis F.C. that was held at the Tehran's Azadi Stadium. Alireza Adeli, who is the head of security for the Tehran municipality, said: “the ban was aimed at preserving the honor of women because the stadium's atmosphere is no place for them. Women who wish to watch the match can do so on TV.”
