Son of Nigerian governor to face manslaughter charge

Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura

The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, Nigeria Mr. Abubakar Sadiq-Bello has said the son of the state governor, Khali Al-makura, who killed a student, Amos Ovyeh, with his car will be arraigned for manslaughter. The CP informed Northern City News in a telephone interview on Tuesday that Khali was still in police custody and would appear in court after the conclusion of investigation. Khali had allegedly knocked down the JSS II student of Government Science School, Lafia with his car last Sunday while he and his friends were on their way to buy batteries for their torch lights.
Sadie-Bello dismissed speculations that the suspect had been released, stressing that Khali and his car were still being held.
“As far as I am concerned, the suspect is still in police custody and his car is at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department. As soon as investigation is concluded, he will be charged to court,” he said. Meanwhile, Ovyeh has been buried by his family at the Mada Station area of Aggadi Development Area of the state. Our correspondent learnt that the deceased was buried on Monday afternoon.
