Man burning old books caused wildfire that burned 10 homes and 19 sheds

Several families lost their homes after a man decided that it was a good idea to burn old books in the woods, according to police in Florida. The Florida Forest Service said that a fire burned 693 acres in Nassau County, destroying numerous homes and sheds. Police said that by the time the fire was extinguished, 2 homes and 19 sheds were destroyed while another 8 homes were damaged. The Florida Fire Service of Jacksonville, said that the Garfield Road fire was caused by someone burning paperback books off CR121 in Nassau County.
“Burning household garbage is illegal in Florida,” the fire department said.
The man, who was not identified, was sent a bill for the cost of fighting the fire. Those who lost property in the fire, can file lawsuits against the man. Luckily, nobody was injured from the fire.
