Cleaner mocked online for staring at gold chains in a Saudi Arabia jewellery shop gets gifts from well-wishers

A photo of a Bangladeshi cleaner staring into a jewellery shop recently went viral on social media. Nazer al-Islam Abdul Karim, 65, who works in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was spotted looking into a jewellers' window and someone decided to take a photo of that exact moment.
Karim, whose monthly salary in Riyadh is $187 (700 Saudi Riyal), said he didn't realise the photo was taken. Sadly, he was ridiculed by the person who shared it online. Things however took a turn when someone named Abdullah Al-Qahtani, who has a Twitter account called 'Ensaneyat' - 'humanitarianism' in Arabic - set out to find him. Ensaneyat tweeted a plea for followers to help find the cleaner. After he was found, well wishers started to send in money, bags of rice and honey, return tickets to his home country and two mobile phones - 'an iPhone 7 and a Samsung Galaxy'. A gold set was also gifted to him.

'I was just doing my job as a cleaner in the municipality and found myself in front of the gold shop. I am very happy about the gifts and very thankful,' he told CNN.
