A mother was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing her newborn baby because she did not want to miss her flight, according to police in Austria. Vienna police said that they have arrested the 27-year-old woman of Minsk, Belarus, who was not identified, after an employee of the Schwechat International Airport found her baby in a toilet garbage bin. In court, the woman has been charged with killing a child at birth. She is being held without bail. If convicted, the woman faces up to five years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, the airport employee found the baby in the garbage bin around 1:30 a.m. Around 2:00 a.m., police found the 27-year-old woman sleeping and covered in blood in the waiting area. The woman told police that she was flying from Minsk to Washington D.C., and she threw away the baby in order not to miss her connecting flight.
