Jamie Vardy named Premier League's Player of the Season

Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy has won the Premier League Player of the Season award. Vardy, 29, has scored 24 goals so far this season to help Leicester to their shock Premier League title success. Vardy had been named on a 10-man shortlist for the award, along with clubmates Riyad Mahrez, N'Golo Kante, Kasper Schmeichel and Wes Morgan. Tottenham's Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld were also on the shortlist along with West Ham's Dimitri Payet and Arsenal's Mesut Ozil. The England international had already been named Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers' Association, while Mahrez earlier won the PFA Player of the Year award.

Algeria international Mahrez was named Player of the Season by the club's supporters while France midfielder Kante landed the Players' Player of the Season prize. Vardy collected his FWA award on Thursday and said he was honoured to take a prize that has been won by many of the game's greats, including Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best, Kenny Dalglish, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo.
"It is an amazing feeling to have my name on the trophy with the names of legends who have won it in the past. It is an absolute honour," he said.
Vardy rejected speculation he could leave the King Power Stadium this summer, saying: "We have just won the league and we are in the Champions League next season.
"You can see that all the lads are happy at Leicester. I am concentrating solely on Leicester."
