‘Glitter tears’, the new make-up trend

Fans of the trend apply glitter under the eye and extend it down the cheek to create the illusion of 'tears' before posting photos of the look to Instagram. The glitter can either be applied in even coverage under the eye to add a touch of shimmer or applied heavily in tear-shaped trails that run down the face. The trend saw a surge in popularity on Valentine's Day, as unlucky-in-love singles expressed their heart-ache at being alone.
'Glitter tears inspired by my painful singleness on Valentine's Day,' one person wrote alongside a photo wearing the trend.
Others used glitter tears to add a touch of drama to their make up.

By smudging the glitter with a charcoal eyeliner they were able to give the illusion of having cried real tears. The trend follows in the footsteps of glitter freckles that recently rose in popularity on social media. Fans of the trend covered their nose, cheekbones and around their eyes with spots of glitter. The look was heralded by Miley Cyrus who herself is a fan of the trend and Lucy Hale, who shared a snap of herself rocking glitter roots on Instagram.
