Safari guide killed by lion as he tried to protect tourists

Profesional guide Quinn Swales, 40, on Monday placed himself "unflinchingly" between a male lion and his guests when it charged and bit him on the shoulder and neck, the luxury lodge that employed Swales in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe said in a statement. The tourists were on a walking safari when the heroic guide was killed in front of them. The lion has been identified by the state’s National Parks Authority as Nxaha.
It was reported that Nxaha moved so fast Swales had no time to fire the rifle he was carrying. The tourists had to radio for help themselves after their shouting drove the lion away from Swales’ body, allowing the unsuccessful emergency first aid to be performed.
“Only praise and admiration can be given to Quinn in the professional way he unflinchingly faced the charging lion," the lodge's general manager, David Carson, was quoted as saying.
“Nxaha is said to be undoubtedly dangerous. If you are lucky enough to see him, be very wary- but what an incredible and awesome privilege it is to have your pulse racing at the sight of this legendary elephant hunter icon," the lodge said.
