About 100,000 chicks die in farm fire

According to a report on News24, about 100 000 baby chicks died after a fire broke out at a farm east of Pretoria on Monday night, Tshwane emergency services said.
Spokesperson Johan Pieterse said workers were busy in the chicken Eagle's Pride farm when the huge structure caught fire.He said the structure housed nearly 100 000 chicks, which were housed there from birth until they were 21 days old. The chickens either burnt to death or died from smoke inhalation before the structure collapsed on them.
It was reported that chemicals at the farm made the fire difficult to put out and also, there wasn't a fire hydrant close-by. Luckily, there were no casualties and investigators are already working on the cause of the fire.
